White River
This video was shot on The White River, in June of 2009. It was early evening as the fog rolled over the river.
The White River is located in Northern Arkansas, 225 miles south of Overland Park, about 4 hours by car. There is very little development along the river, so you will really feel like you are "getting away from it all".
The White River is stocked with Rainbow and Brown trout. The trophy areas require single, barbless hooks. We like to catch-and-release, but if you prefer to eat your trout, then "bon apetite". If you are a fly fisherperson, then you will find a lot of great locations to put on your waders and cast away. As you make that perfect cast you may also see a variety of wildlife, including geese, herons, vultures, deer, and muskrats.
Our group has made an annual trip to the White since 1984. For the last few years we have been staying at Spider Creek Resort. They have very nice rustic cabins with big covered porches. Don't worry though, they have modern kitchens and comfortable beds, so you won't have to feel like you are roughing it. The resort is well maintained, and family friendly, with playgrounds for the kids, picnic tables, and covered common areas. If you want to get out on the water, they rent canoes for fishing or floating. Be sure and make your reservations early, especially during the peak season.
Spider Creek is less than 15 minutes from Eureka Springs. There are a lot of things to see and do in Eureka Springs, and if you get tired of eating trout there are plenty of good restaurants. We always make at least one trek to Myrtie Maes for their delicious fried chicken and the large salad bar. Oh yes, you can also get a glass of wine or beer with your meal!
